Ieri pomeriggio il ciclista Canadese mette a segno un’altra delle sue pazze imprese, scavalcando il Kom di Nibali sul Mortirolo.

Chi ci segue sa che poco più di due settimane fa avevamo intervistato Jack Burke dopo che eravamo stati colpiti dalla sua incredibile storia. Un ragazzo venuto dal Canada per entrare nel mondo del ciclismo World Tour che ha visto svanire il suo sogno dopo un brutto incidente nel 2022 che lo ha quasi costretto ad appendere la bici al chiodo. Ma grazie ai suoi amici, al suo preparatore e a Scott-Austria è tornato in sella a vincere ovunque si sia presentato nel corso della stagione 2024, anche se si parla di granfondo, ma dove sappiamo bene che a vincere sono quasi sempre ex pro ben preparati. Quello di cui vi volevamo parlare oggi è dell’ennesima impresa di quest’anno compiuta dal ciclista scrittore. Esattamente come aveva fatto a metà ottobre sullo Stelvio, ieri 16 novembre Jack Burke ha messo a segno la Kom sul Mortirolo.

Il 15 ottobre scorso, Jack Burke conquistò la Kom da Prato allo Stelvio alla vetta di Re Stelvio (2.758 mt slm) 23,6 km / 1.821 mt dsl+ / 8,2% pendenza media, con un tempo di 1:08:32. Il record lo aveva fatto registrare un cero Jai Hindley durante il Giro d’Italia post Covid dell’ottobre 2020, con un tempo di 1:09:41, il secondo fu un certo Vincenzo Nibali con 1:12:14.

E come si sa affrontare una salita in gara è sempre diverso che in allenamento, i tempi sono sempre più bassi anche se la si affronta dopo molti chilometri dove si riesce a stare nella pancia del gruppo e comunque in salita, anche se manca l’effetto scia, c’è l’effetto adrenalina creato dallo spalla a spalla con l’avversario o il supporto morale del compagno di squadra. Quindi per Jack Burke che l’ha affrontata da solo, abbassare il tempo di ben 1 minuto e 9 secondi è un’impresa che parala da sola. Poi ognuno è libero di pensare quello che vuole. Noi pensiamo che ci voglia del Vero Talento!

Come dicevo, il 29 enne canadese Jack Burke non accontentandosi di tale impresa ieri ha voluto ancora stupire il mondo delle due ruote a pedale andando ad affrontare una delle salite più dure del ciclismo mondiale, il mitico Mortirolo affrontato dal suo versante più duro, quello di Mazzo di Valtellina. Considerato da tutti un Mostro per via delle sue pendenze a doppia cifra, fino al 16%, la salita che ha visto tante imprese nel ciclismo, simbolo del Giro d’Italia, quella dove danzava sui pedali Albero Contador e dove scattava Vincenzo Nibali che proprio nel Giro d’Italia del 2019 (dove Lo Squalo fece secondo in classifica generale) lasciò la sua impronta con il tempo record di 44:52.

Ieri Burke ha scalato gli 11,46 km per 1.282 mt dsl+ con una pendenza media del 11,7% con il tempo di 43:45 prendendosi la corona di Re della Montagna con ben 1 minuto e 7 secondi sullo Squalo dello Stretto.

Anche se non era durante una gara c’è comunque da dire che il buon Jack, cosi come fece per lo Stelvio, ha fatto tutto questo in una giornata, ossia dopo 4 ore di viaggio in auto dall’Austria (dove risiede) per poi rifarsi altre 4 ore di macchina al ritorno! Non solo, lo ha fatto a novembre, quindi a fine stagione e con temperature invernali! Matto? No, quella di Jack è una vera e propria passione fin da piccolo per questo sport ed un grande amore per la montagna, come ci racconta spesso nei suoi post che pubblica su Strava o su Instagram. Motivo per cui ha scelto di vivere in Austria in mezzo alle salite dove si allena e alle montagne dove può andare a sciare, altra sua grande passione e sport verso il quale ha un altro grande talento. Come infatti troviamo scritto nel suo sotto titolo sul profilo Strava, si ama definire “Director of good times” Direttore del divertimento.

Ma Jack Burke, come già ci aveva raccontato nella sua precedente intervista, ha questo sogno nel cassetto fin da bambino, ossia quello di raggiungere il mondo del ciclismo professionista nel World Tour. Un appello che fa anche nelle sue video storie su Strava e Instagram dopo aver compiuto queste simpatiche ma durissime imprese. Ossia quello di avere almeno una chance, una carta da giocare per il 2025. E noi di Cycling360.net speriamo davvero che a questo ragazzo canadese sia data la possibilità perché se lo meriterebbe davvero! Così com’è accaduto in passato ad altri atleti che avevano dimostrato le loro doti attraverso la app di Strava o semplicemente allenandosi sui rulli con la GoZwift Academy, come non a caso è successo al nostro Luca Vergallito, messo sotto contratto con la Alpecin-Deceuninck.

Breaking News: Jack Burke overtakes “The Shark” on the Mortirolo.

Those who follow us know that just over two weeks ago we interviewed Jack Burke after we were struck by his incredible story. A boy who came from Canada to enter the world of World Tour cycling who saw his dream vanish after a bad accident in 2022 that almost forced him to hang up his bike. But thanks to his friends, his trainer and Scott-Austria, he is back in the saddle to win wherever he has shown up during the 2024 season, even if we are talking about granfondos, but where we know well that the winners are almost always well-prepared former pros. What we wanted to talk to you about today is yet another feat this year accomplished by the cyclist-writer. Just as he had done in mid-October on the Stelvio, yesterday November 16^th Jack Burke scored the Kom on the Mortirolo.

On October 15^th, Jack Burke scored the Kom from Prato allo Stelvio to the summit of King Stelvio (2,758 m asl) 23.6 km / 1,821 m dsl+ / 8.2% average gradient, with a time of 1:08:32. The record had been recorded by a candle Jai Hindley during the post-Covid Giro d’Italia in October 2020, with a time of 1:09:41, the second was a certain Vincenzo Nibali with 1:12:14. As I said, the 29 year old Canadian Jack Burke, not being satisfied with such a feat, yesterday still wanted to amaze the world of cycling by going to face one of the toughest climbs in world cycling, the legendary Mortirolo tackled from its hardest side, that of Mazzo di Valtellina. Considered by all to be a Monster because of its double-digit gradients, up to 16%, the climb that has seen so many feats in cycling, a symbol of the Giro d’Italia, the one where Albero Contador danced on the pedals and where Vincenzo Nibali sprinted who in the 2019 Giro d’Italia (where Lo Squalo – The Shark – finished second in the general classification) left his mark with the record time of 44:52. Yesterday Burke climbed the 11.46 km for 1,282 meters dsl+ with an average gradient of 11.7% with a time of 43:45 taking the crown of King of the Mountain with 1 minute and 7 seconds on the Shark of the Strait.

Even if it was not during a race, it must still be said that the good Jack, as he did for the Stelvio, did all this in one day, that is, after a 4-hour drive from Austria (where he lives) and then another 4 hours by car on the way back! Not only that, it did so in November, so at the end of the season and with winter temperatures! Crazy? No, Jack’s has been a real passion for this sport since he was a child and a great love for the mountains, as he often tells us in his posts that he publishes on Strava or Instagram. Which is why he has chosen to live in Austria in the midst of the climbs where he trains and the mountains where he can go skiing, another great passion of his and sport towards which he has another great talent. In fact, as we find written in his subtitle on the Strava profile, he likes to call himself “Director of good times“.

But Jack Burke, as he had already told us in his previous interview, has had this dream in the drawer since he was a child, that is to reach the world of professional cycling in the World Tour. An appeal that he also makes in his video stories on Strava and Instagram after having accomplished these nice but very hard feats. That is, to have at least a chance, a card to play for 2025. And we at Cycling360.net really hope that this Canadian guy will be given the chance because he really deserves it! As has happened in the past to other athletes who had demonstrated their skills through the Strava app or simply by training on rollers with the GoZwift Academy, as it is no coincidence that it happened to our Luca Vergallito, signed with Alpecin-Deceuninck.
