Il ciclista canadese ha tentato anche il Kom sulla mitica salita del Tour de France, ma non è riuscito a battere il Pirata.

Siamo stati tra i primi ad aver intervistato Jack Burke dopo che eravamo stati colpiti dalla sua incredibile storia. Un ragazzo venuto dal Canada per entrare nel mondo del ciclismo World Tour che ha visto svanire il suo sogno dopo un brutto incidente nel 2022 che lo ha quasi costretto ad appendere la bici al chiodo. Ma grazie ai suoi amici, al suo preparatore e a Scott-Austria è tornato in sella a vincere ovunque si sia presentato nel corso della stagione 2024, anche se si parla di granfondo, ma dove sappiamo bene che a vincere sono quasi sempre ex pro ben preparati. Quello di cui vi volevamo parlare oggi è dell’ennesima impresa di quest’anno compiuta dal ciclista scrittore. Esattamente come aveva fatto il 15 ottobre sullo Stelvio e il 16 novembre sul Mortirolo, Jack Burke ha messo a segno quella che all’inizio sembrava un’altra Kom sull’Alpe d’Huez nei confronti del suo amico Sepp Kuss, senza però tener conto che li non appariva il pirata Marco Pantani, in quanto nel 1995 non esisteva ancora l’app di Strava. Durante quel Tour de France il Pirata avrebbe scalato l’Alpe d’Huez in quasi due minuti meno del canadese. Adesso infatti il tempo di Pantani è stato inserito da qualcuno che ha creato un account a nome del Pirata per rendere onore al merito dopo che qualcuno lo ha fatto notare.
Quella di Jack Burke rimane comunque un’impresa dato che è stata affrontata a novembre con freddo e pioggia. Comunque per il canadese che l’ha affrontata da solo, abbassare di 9” il tempo di Sepp Kuss (che stava portando a ruota verso la vetta Vingegaard e Pogacar nel Tour del 2022) è comunque un’impresa che parala da sola, anche se il mitico Pantani l’aveva percorsa in 34’02”. Poi ognuno è libero di pensare quello che vuole. Per fare certe imprese noi pensiamo che ci voglia sempre del vero talento!
Ma Jack Burke, come già ci aveva raccontato nella sua precedente intervista, ha questo sogno nel cassetto fin da bambino, ossia quello di raggiungere il mondo del ciclismo professionista nel World Tour. Un appello che fa anche nelle sue video storie su Strava e Instagram dopo aver compiuto queste simpatiche ma durissime imprese. Ossia quello di avere almeno una chance, una carta da giocare per il 2025. E noi di Cycling360.net speriamo davvero che a questo ragazzo canadese sia data la possibilità perché se lo meriterebbe davvero!
Ecco il suo appello al mondo del ciclismo professionistico durante una sua recente intervista rilasciata a WielerFlits dove lo scalatore 29enne ha detto di essere riuscito finalmente ad entrare in contatto con quattro diversi team del massimo livello del ciclismo mondiale:
“In realtà ho cercato di diventare un corridore WorldTour per tutta la vita e sono stato anche invitato da alcune squadre per test e training camps. Per alcuni anni ho corso per squadre Continental, ma è finita nel 2022 dopo essere stato investito da un’auto durante un allenamento – ha raccontato Burke parlando della sua carriera ciclistica ai microfoni di WielerFlits – Ho un podcast e una volta ho parlato con un allenatore. Ho trovato la sua storia interessante e ha iniziato ad allenarmi, così da maggio di quest’anno ho ricominciato ad allenarmi. All’epoca era ancora tutto da decidere, ma ad agosto ero di nuovo in forma e ho iniziato a pedalare e a vincere gare amatoriali. Ho continuato a migliorare, ma a fine stagione non c’erano più gare. Poi ho deciso di provare la Zwift Academy, ma non sono riuscito nemmeno ad arrivare al primo turno. Non era necessariamente un obiettivo, ma ho notato che non stava andando bene ed ero deluso. Così ho preso un giorno di riposo e ho deciso di mettermi alla prova sulla Stelvio, che è andata benissimo”.
I contatti con i grandi team del ciclismo mondiale ci sono, ma il fatto di essere già a dicembre potrebbe essere un problema in vista della prossima stagione. “È tutto abbastanza informale, tramite i social media, ma c’è sicuramente interesse. Il problema è che è così tardi nella stagione che è difficile ottenere un posto. Se dovessi fare una stima ora, credo che ci sia un 30% di possibilità che io corra nel WorldTour l’anno prossimo – evidenzia il cicloamatore canadese – Il mio sogno più grande è diventare uno dei migliori gregari per gli uomini di classifica, come Sepp Kuss. È anche un mio amico, abbiamo corso insieme in passato. La mia speranza è che se una squadra va a un Grande Giro per la classifica, scelga me per primo, indipendentemente dal leader. Perché sanno che sono il miglior supporto, questo è il mio sogno. Sono più bravo ad aiutare gli altri a ottenere un buon risultato che a correre io stesso per un risultato”.
Burke crede che questa per lui potrebbe essere l’ultima possibilità per firmare un contratto con un team di livello WorldTour, visto che non si aspetta di poter trovare così tanto interesse anche nel corso del prossimo anno. “Questo è stato un anno perfetto, in cui ho vinto tutte le gare a cui ho partecipato e ho ottenuto tre importanti KOM. Se questo non è sufficiente, non so cos’altro potrò fare l’anno prossimo” ha infine ammesso lo scalatore 29enne.

We were among the first to interview Jack Burke after we were struck by his incredible story. A boy who came from Canada to enter the world of World Tour cycling who saw his dream vanish after a bad accident in 2022 that almost forced him to hang up his bike. But thanks to his friends, his trainer and Scott-Austria, he is back in the saddle to win wherever he has shown up during the 2024 season, even if we are talking about granfondos, but where we know well that the winners are almost always well-prepared former pros. What we wanted to talk to you about today is yet another feat this year accomplished by the cyclist-writer. Just as he had done on October 15 on the Stelvio and on November 16 on the Mortirolo, Jack Burke scored what at first seemed like another Kom on the Alpe d’Huez against his friend Sepp Kuss, without however taking into account that the pirate Marco Pantani did not appear there, as in 1995 the Strava app did not yet exist. During that Tour de France, the Pirate would have climbed the Alpe d’Huez in almost two minutes before the Canadian. Now, in fact, Pantani’s time has been entered by someone who has created an account in the name of the Pirate to honor the merit after someone pointed it out.
Jack Burke‘s is still a feat given that it was tackled in November with cold and rain. However, for the Canadian who faced it alone, lowering the time of Sepp Kuss by 9″ (who was leading Vingegaard and Pogacar to the top in the 2022 Tour) is still a feat that parries alone, even if the legendary Pantani had covered it in 34’02”. Then everyone is free to think what they want. To do certain feats we think that you always need real talent!
But Jack Burke, as he had already told us in his previous interview, has had this dream in the drawer since he was a child, that is to reach the world of professional cycling in the World Tour. An appeal that he also makes in his video stories on Strava and Instagram after having accomplished these nice but very hard feats. That is, to have at least a chance, a card to play for 2025. And we at Cycling360.net really hope that this Canadian guy will be given the chance because he really deserves it!
Here is his appeal to the world of professional cycling during a recent interview with WielerFlits where the 29-year-old climber said that he has finally managed to get in touch with four different teams at the highest level of world cycling:
“I’ve actually been trying to become a WorldTour rider all my life and I’ve also been invited by some teams for tests and training camps. For a few years I raced for Continental teams, but it ended in 2022 after being hit by a car during training – Burke said talking about his cycling career to the microphones of WielerFlits – I have a podcast and once I spoke to a coach. I found his story interesting and he started training me, so from May of this year I started training again. At the time, everything was still to be decided, but in August I was fit again and started cycling and winning amateur races. I kept improving, but at the end of the season there were no more races. Then I decided to try the Zwift Academy, but I couldn’t even make it to the first round. It wasn’t necessarily a goal, but I noticed that it wasn’t going well and I was disappointed. So I took a rest day and decided to test myself on the Stelvio, which went very well“.
There are contacts with the big teams in world cycling, but the fact that it is already in December could be a problem in view of next season. “It’s all quite informal, via social media, but there’s definitely interest. The problem is that it’s so late in the season that it’s hard to get a seat. If I had to make an estimate now, I think there is a 30% chance that I will race in the WorldTour next year – highlights the Canadian amateur cyclist – My biggest dream is to become one of the best domestiques for the men in the classification, like Sepp Kuss. He’s also a friend of mine, we’ve raced together in the past. My hope is that if a team goes to a Grand Tour for the classification, they choose me first, regardless of the leader. Because they know that they are the best support, this is my dream. I’m better at helping others get a good result than running for a result myself.”
Burke believes this could be his last chance to sign a contract with a WorldTour team, as he doesn’t expect to find so much interest over the course of next year. “This has been a perfect year, in which I have won all the races I have participated in and I have obtained three important KOMs. If that’s not enough, I don’t know what else I’ll be able to do next year,” the 29-year-old climber finally admitted.
